BWWMH honors Auxiliary for Volunteer Week
Members of the Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary gathered for the annual National Volunteer Week luncheon held in their honor on April 22 at historic Lyon Hall in Demopolis.
“The Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is one of the most active, influential volunteer organizations in Demopolis,” said Chrissy Brooker, Volunteer Services Coordinator. “We enjoy taking this opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation for all they do for the hospital and the patients we serve each year.”
Each year members of the organization select one of their members whom they feel best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism as their Volunteer of the Year. This year’s recipient is Carolyn Bell. Mrs. Bell joined the Auxiliary on June 14, 2012 and hit the ground running that year by chairing the fundraising arm of one of the group’s largest projects of the year, the Love Lights Campaign. Since then she has chaired several other events and is currently serving at the organization’s vice president. As the volunteer of the year, she received a certificate of appreciation, a pin, and an original painting by local artist Kirk Brooker, commissioned in her honor.
Four members of the Auxiliary were recognized for reaching the five years of service mark including Peggy Dunklin, Carol Glass, Alice Washburn and Eloise Wilkerson. Biboo Webb was recognized for 10 years of service and Edith Whitfield, who is a charter member of the organization, was recognized for 40 years of service.
The newest members of the Auxiliary are George Cannon, Peggy Luker, Krista Mitchell and Joan Wilkinson.
A highlight of the luncheon each year is the presentation of the President’s Call To Service Awards for hours worked during the past year. During calendar year 2013, members of the Auxiliary racked up over 8,000 hours of service.
Established in 2003, the President‘s Volunteer Service Award is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. As one of thousands of certifying organizations participating in the award program, BWWMH confers the award to recognize the outstanding achievements of its volunteers.
