Demopolis baseball handles Central for area wins

20190321 — Demopolis High School Baseball vs Central-Tuscaloosa Falcons

Demopolis (6-6, 2-0) pulled off a decisive sweep of Central-Tuscaloosa last week to pull its record even on the season and clear a portion of its area schedule unscathed.

DEMOPOLIS 7, CENTRAL 3

Demopolis led the Falcons 2-1 through five Tuesday before opening the game up a little with a two-run sixth inning.

Grant Patterson notched a leadoff single in the top of the sixth. Two batters later, Charles Casper came up with an RBI double to move the lead to 3-1. Jackson Cox later singled in Casper for the 4-1 advantage.

Davis Petrey stretched the lead in the seventh with a double to plate Price Smith. Casper followed with a double of his own to plate Patterson and Petrey. Central added two runs in the home half of the seventh to set the final margin.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the first when Petrey hit a solo homer. Demopolis made it 2-0 in the second when Cox drove in Hunter Thrash with a single.

Hudson Holley got the win, striking out 10 batters over five and two-thirds innings of work while allowing three hits and one earned run. Petrey entered with a 4-1 lead and two out in the sixth, working an inning and a third while striking out four for the save.

DEMOPOLIS 20, CENTRAL 1

Thursday’s home tilt with Central proved a far different tale as Demopolis used 10 hits, 11 walks and six Central errors to plate 20 runs in only four innings. Casper started the scoring with a three-run homer in the first inning and scarcely ever looked back en route to a seven-RBI performance that saw him go 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Petrey finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Price Smith drove in two runs and scored twice. Henry Overmyer drove in a pair of run and scored once. Cox, Trey Malone, Parker Hallmark, Skylar Lewis and Hayes Atkins had one RBI each. Lewis scored three times.

Atkins struck out 12 batters over five inning while scattering three hits and allowing one earned run for the win.
