Dawgs drub Pirates, 58-6

The Sweet Water Bulldogs rushed for 370 yards, collected 27 first downs and forced four turnovers on their way to a 58-6 victory at home against the Fruitdale Pirates.

After Lashon Young picked off a Pirate pass on their opening possession, Walker Thompson and Jaden Lewis started the scoring for the Bulldogs when they connnected on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 6:44 to go in the first quarter. The PAT failed, but the Dawgs claimed a 6-0 lead.

After a Pirate punt, Jaland Lewis Horton got the Dawgs on the board again with a 13 yard run. Jonathan Morris converted the 2-point attempt, giving Sweet Water a 14-0 lead with :09 remaining in the first quarter.

Horton got his second touchdown run of the night at the 3:40 mark of the second quarter. The 2-yard run and a failed PAT increased the Bulldog lead over the Pirates to 20-0.

Following another Pirate punt, Horton added a 1-yard touchdown run to his tally for the night. A 2-point conversion attempt failed, but the Bulldogs had a 26-0 lead with :24 to go in the first half.

On the ensuing Pirate possession, Thompson recovered a fumble when Fruitdale quarterback was sacked. On the next play, Young and Thompson connected for a 28-yard touchdown pass to increase the Bulldog lead to 32-0 with :04 to go in the second quarter. Another failed PAT left the score at 32-0, in favor of the Bulldogs as the half expired.

The Bulldogs received the opening second half kick and Morris scored on a 17-yard run with 10:18 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT problems continued for the Bulldogs, but they claimed a 38-0 lead over the Pirates.

Thompson got his second fumble recovery of the night on the Pirates ensuing possession. Elliot Lucy cashed in two plays later on a 10-yard run. The Dawgs finally got a PAT and increased their lead to 45-0 with 7:42 to go in the third quarter.

The next Bulldog possession resulted in a 12-yard touchdown run from Delvontae Lucy. Another unsuccessful PAT left the Dawgs with a 51-0 lead with only :39 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs got their final score of the night on a 3-yard run by Nate Norris at the 2:38 mark of the fourth quarter. Michael Alan Cole tacked on the PAT, giving the Dawgs a 58-0 lead.

Fruitdale finally got on the board with 1:11 remaining in the game, via a 76-yard run. The Pirates’ 2-point conversion failed, leaving the Bulldogs with a 58-6 lead, which proved to be the final score.

Thompson hit on all six of his passes, totaling 110 yards and accounting for two touchdowns. Young and Lewis caught three passes each, with 57 and 53 yards, respectively. Horton led the rushing category with 14 carries for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Delvontae Lucy had 79 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. Jonathan Morris tallied 68 yards and one touchdown on three carries. Elliot Lucy added 50 yards and a touchdown on three carries, while Christian Dunning added 50 yards on nine carries. Norris had four carries for 15 yards and one touchdown and Thompson had a single carry for four yards.

The Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0) will get next week off and prepare to travel to Leroy to take on the Bears on Sept. 25.
