Commission revokes liquor, lounge licenses for businesses at fatal shooting

Liquor and lounge licenses for two businesses in Magnolia were revoked Tuesday by the Marengo County Commission.

A fatal shooting occurred earlier this month at Magnolia Sports Bar & Grill and Price Package Store, both owned by Patrick Price. County attorney Woody Dinning Jr. said he would send the paperwork immediately to the ABC Board to set the Commission’s vote into action.

Commissioners approved Shelby Turberville as the new administrative assistant for the county engineer’s office. She will succeed Joan Daniels who has held the position for 13 years. Commission Chairman Jason Windham presented Daniels with a plaque thanking her for her service.

Windham announced bids will be accepted at the August meeting for the solid waste disposal contract.

The county established levies for the new ABC License types, an annual approval that is set by state law. Commissioners continued the agreement with the American National Red Cross for continued use of county facilities.

Jo Ellen Martin, director of the Marengo County Economic Development Authority, announced that Calvin Burroughs with the USDA will hold an information session Thursday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m. in Rooster Hall in Demopolis. He will answer questions about the many USDA grant opportunities, including RISE and the American Recovery Action Plan.

County Engineer Ken Atkins asked to talk with commissioners about the upcoming rebuild Alabama grant and how Marengo County can benefit from it.
