Colyar Ks 16 in win over DCHS

Hunter Colyar was dominant from beginning to end Wednesday night as he pitched the Demopolis to an 8-0 win over Dallas County and a perfect run through Class 5A, Area 7 play.

Colyar struck out 16 batters over seven innings, including a stretch that saw him fan the last seven Hornet hitters he faced. The only hit he surrendered was a leadoff single to open the bottom of the fifth.

The Tigers scratched out an early 1-0 lead as R.J. Cox hit a sacrifice fly to plate Chandler Barton after the DHS second baseman reached on a leadoff walk.

Demopolis added to the lead in the top of the third as DeDe Davis singled to open the inning before scoring on Cox’s RBI single to left. Henry Overmyer scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth to pad the lead before Tyler Jones crossed home on a passed ball for the 4-0 advantage.

Demopoils broke the game open in the sixth with a four-run rally ignited by Hunter Thrash’s leadoff double. Barton later drew a bases-loaded walk for the 5-0 lead. Colyar then singled home Jones and Davis to make it 7-0. Cox singled in Barton for his third RBI of the contest to cap the scoring.

Demopolis (13-5, 4-0) is set to host Selma Thursday for Senior Night.
