Collins looks to bring experience, energy to City Hall

Woody Collins is no stranger to Demopolis. In fact, he’s the single mayoral candidate in a field of four who has called Demopolis home his entire life.

“I’ve been in Demopolis all my life, and it’s the only place I’d ever want to live,” said Collins, from his Jackson Street office.

Collins has served the local community in a number of roles, including president of the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club President, and president of the Demopolis Jaycees. He has also served on numerous boards and councils, including the Parks and Rec, Library, Water, and the Demopolis City Schools Foundation Boards.

“I think what sets me apart from other candidates is not only the experience I have in and around municipal government but also my track record of community service in Demopolis” said Collins.

“There are some great candidates in this race, no doubt, but you hear a lot about what the ‘book’ says we should do. We can read books about it and talk about it all day long, but when you’ve rolled up your sleeves and put in the work, you have years of experience that you cannot put a price tag on. That’s what I bring to the table.”

Collins served two terms on the Demopolis City Council, but perhaps his proudest accomplishment has been his time served on the Demopolis Industrial Development Board.

“I’ve served over 10 years with the IDB, and during my time as Chairman, we were successful in bringing Two Rivers Lumber Company to Demopolis,” he said. “And now, because Two Rivers is here, we’re bringing Alabama Pellets right next door.”

Two Rivers opened in 2017 expecting to bring 65 jobs to the area. As of today, over 120 are employed by the company. Alabama Pellets, a subsidiary of Pinnacle Renewable Energy, is expected to employ another 60 when it opens in 2021.

“These jobs are well-compensated and are a step towards providing our younger generation with opportunities right here at home, rather than forcing them to seek employment in larger job markets,” said Collins.

To continue this path, Collins said it’s important for the Demopolis mayor to be a full-time mayor.
“This job may be part-time on paper, but the citizens of Demopolis deserve a full-time mayor working for them who will continue to put our city’s best interests first,” said Collins.

Currently, Collins is the only challenger to the office who has said he will leave his full-time career to serve Demopolis if elected mayor.

“I’ve poured my entire career into my small, family-owned business, and walking away is not something I take lightly. But the people of Demopolis deserve a full-time mayor, and that’s exactly what I plan to be,” he said.

Besides his qualifications, Collins said his love for Demopolis is what ultimately drove him to enter the race.

“I’m running for mayor because I love Demopolis. I’m ready to see us reach our full potential, and I know I have the skillset to get us there,” said Collins. “Let’s Win With Woody on August 25!”
