Clarke County NAACP to host Juneteenth Festival

GROVE HILL – The Clarke County Unit of Alabama’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a Juneteenth Festival Saturday, June 18, in Toddtown.

The event is being held in partnership with the Toddtown Community Outreach Organization.

“The Clarke County NAACP believes that we should commemorate Juneteenth now more than ever,” said unit President Helen McRand. “It is a mission to spotlight our truth that freedom and justice for all in these United States has always been delayed and in many instances denied to blacks in America.”

The event will begin with a motorcade at 9 a.m. from Pine Chapel Baptist Church #2 and will conclude at festival grounds. The celebration will last until 4 p.m. with a kid-zone, games, food and other vendors signed up to participate. While the event is scheduled to take place in the Toddtown Community, the address for the location is 1108 Winn Rd., Jackson, AL 36545.

During the celebration, Nicholas Finch and Kirstan Cunningham will host live interviews on their “True Comedy: A Highly Debatable Podcast” platform to encourage residents and visitors of the area to share the message of the occasion. Finch, a native of Toddtown, has seen the podcast ranked as the 13th Best Black Comedy Podcast in the world.
