Body of missing Sweet Water man believed found

Searchers Wednesday found a body believed to be that of Melvin “Pop” Tensley, 65, who went missing June 2.

Marengo County Sheriff Richard Bates said the body was discovered about 4:15 p.m. on Jass Lane in Sweet Water, about 300 yards from where Tensley’s truck was found. Investigators called in the South Marengo Rescue Squad and the Sweet Water Volunteer Fire Department, and members of the search team found the body.

Bates said he is “90 percent sure” it is the mission Sweet Water resident, but an autopsy is being performed to confirm identity and determine the cause of death.

Bates said the case remains under investigation, and he asks if anyone has information to contact his office.
