2014 West Alabama Watchman All-County Boys Basketball Team

The West Alabama Watchman combed over details, statistics and overall impact of the boys who played varsity basketball in Marengo County in the 2013-2014 season. And after careful consideration of dozens of local players, The Watchman has assembled its first All-County Boys Basketball Team.

Players from all seven high school programs in Marengo County were taken into consideration. There are five players on the First Team and five players on the Second Team.

Read it. Agree with it. Debate about it. But, more than anything, pass along proper kudos to these 10 young men for making All-County.

First Team

Cason Cook, So. – Marengo Academy – The Longhorns’ second-leading scorer was also the most prolific rebounder in the county this season, as exhibited by his season-high 31-rebound game. His ability to dominate the glass helped fuel MA’s run to the state title game. Cook ended up with 11.91 points per game and 13.96 rebounds per contest.

Josh Moore, So. – John Essex – You can call him The Big Easy because everything Josh Moore does in the paint seems incredibly effortless. His post skills established him as the most polished big man in the county this season and led him to double-double season averages that included 11.13 points per game.

Kiante Jeffries, Sr. – Demopolis – Jeffries may be the most improved player in the county this season. His improved ball-handling and playmaking helped the Tigers and he also led the way for Demopolis with 15.07 points per game.

Imoras Agee, Sr. – Linden – The West Alabama Watchman Player of the Year as a junior, Agee’s game did not skip a beat this season. Agee scored a county high 21.3 points per game this time around while snagging seven rebounds, four assists and three steals a contest.

Michael Moore, Sr. – John Essex – The Hornets did not keep up with rebounds, steals, assists or blocks in 2014, but Moore had plenty of all of those. He absolutely drove the bus for John Essex as a senior, averaging 17.95 points per game and flashing his leadership ability from bell to bell every night.

Second Team

Michael Lewis, Sr. – Marengo High – Lewis is as fast as anybody in the county and his size and strength helped him be a force for the Panthers in 2013-2014. He finished with 14 points and seven rebounds a game.

Anthony McIntosh, Jr. – John Essex – It seems like he has started at Essex forever, but McIntosh is still just a junior. His sharp-shooting ability helped him do most of his damage down the stretch as he averaged 12.52 points a night for the Hornets.

Hayden Huckabee, So. – Marengo Academy – The Longhorns’ point guard plays the position as physically as anyone in the county this season. His presence pushed Marengo Academy to a five-game winning streak in the postseason and to within seconds of a state championship. He finished with 12.5 points, 3.32 rebound and 2.25 steals per game.

Jeremy Mitchell, Jr. – A.L. Johnson – The Eagles had their ups and downs in 2013-2014, but it was mostly up for Mitchell as he posted 13 points per game. Mitchell did most of his damage in the season’s second half and showed flashes of 25-point-per-night potential.

Demetrius Bowser, Sr. – Marengo High – Bowser posted respectable all-around numbers this season while helping to fuel the Panthers. He finished with 14.4 points, six rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.7 assists per game.
