DHS River City Blue seniors sign with UWA

5-1-2019 — Demopolis, Ala. — Five senior Demopolis High School students signed band scholarships to with the University of West Alabama. Those seniors are (left to right) Rose Hall, Mary Katherine Kish, Bryan McAfee, Cureana Lewis and Abby Hulsey.

Five senior Demopolis High School band members signed scholarships with the University of West Alabama in a signing ceremony at the school library. The scholarships awarded total $39,900, which goes toward the students’ tuition.

UWA Band Director Michael Tignor was on hand for the ceremony. “I could not be more excited to be adding these five students to our band program. They not only bring needed talent to our band, but are great kids who add so much more than that to our program,” Tignor said.

“I am very proud of all of the seniors pursuing their musical talents at the University of West Alabama. They have worked extremely hard and done so with different band directors during their course of time and the band programs at Demopolis City Schools. I wish them well in all of their future endeavors and I’m very proud that they were members of the River City Blue,” said Demopolis High School band director Demetrius Scott.

Four of the five students play instruments and one is a majorette. Hall plays the trumpet, Kish plays the flute and piccolo, McAfee plays the tuba, Lewis plays the clarinet and Hulsey is a majorette.
