Demopolis BOE makes principal hire; accepts principal resignation

In a called meeting Thursday morning, the Demopolis City School Board of Education unanimously selected Bridgett Powell to be the new principal at U.S. Jones Elementary School beginning June 1.

For the last four years Powell has served as assistant principal in Clarke County. The UWA graduate has 25 years of education experience, including positions as a counselor and special education teacher in elementary schools.

In other action, the board agreed to advertise for two elementary assistant principals who also would work with intervention groups.

The board hired Linda Anderson as a USJ teacher. 

Resignations were accepted from Ashley Harrison and Whitney Mosley, USJ; Sam Mosley, DHS; Crystal Jackson, WES, and Brandon Kyser, DMS principal.

Roger Locke, maintenance supervisor, and Constance Cleveland were granted extended medical leave.
