Wilson named ESPN 104.9 Player of the Week

When you set a state record in your first meaningful game since 2008, it is pretty much a lock that you are going to be up for some accolades.
So it should come as little surprise that Demopolis senior cornerback  Tommy Wilson garnered ESPN 104.9 Player of the Week honors after setting a state record for longest interception return for a touchdown.
In the second quarter of Friday’s win over American Christian Academy, Wilson intercepted a pass eight yards deep in the end zone and returned it 108 yards for a score.
The highlight reel play will have Wilson’s name forever amid the annals of the AHSAA record books, but it was not his only bright spot on the night. On the previous play, Wilson ran 47 yards and across the field to tackle an ACA runner eight yards from the end zone.
Add that to the short kickoff he recovered for his team and you have one good day at the office for a kid who had not played in a football game that counted since middle school.
