WCC Demopolis offering BOGO for spring semester

At least one good thing is coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wallace Community College Selma/Demopolis is offering a buy one, get one (BOGO) community scholarship program for the Spring 2021 semester.

Because of the financial strain resulting from the pandemic, WCC, along with other community colleges in the state, is providing free tuition for up to nine credit hours to students.

Blaine Hathcock, campus director for WCC Demopolis, said this is a way the college can offer relief for students who want to continue or start their college education during these difficult times.

To apply for the scholarship, students must register for at least six credit hours by Dec. 15. They also:

  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) unless they are dual enrolled as high school students.
  • Are not receiving an institutional scholarship or any other scholarship (dual tech or high school.
  • Must be a high school dual enrolled student taking classes online or on a WCC campus and is not receiving institutional or any other scholarship.
  • Must be a first time or returning student not awarded Full PELL Grant or any other scholarship.

The class for which the student receives a waiver must have equivalent credit hours of the purchased class, said Hathcock. For example, a student purchasing a three credit-hour class may receive a tuition waiver for a three credit-hour class.

To apply for the waiver, click HERE.

The waiver is available for up to 18 total credit hours – nine paid hours. A student enrolled in more than 18 hours of which nine are paid for, will be charged normal tuition rate for the additional credit hours, he continued.

The waiver is for tuition only; fees are not included.

Hathcock said students who have yet to apply or complete the registration process for the spring semester are encouraged to take advantage of the BOGO offer.

The WCC spring semester classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 6. For more information, contact WCC Demopolis at 334-876-9402.
