Wallace updates Rotarians on UWA sports

Bobby Wallace, Director of Athletics at the University of West Alabama, imparted his words of wisdom to the Demopolis Rotary Club at its meeting Wednesday.

Wallace told Rotarians about his career history at several different universities. He shared updates on the vast improvements under way at UWA for the baseball, softball, basketball and football teams, including a new student athlete academic center.

Wallace bragged on UWA’s tennis and women’s soccer teams as well.

He told the club in order to win, you need:

1. Talent
2. Sound coaching
3. Good Intangibles of the game – relationships, respect, work ethic, and discipline to name a few.

He added that three things must be important to a student athlete in order to be a winner:

1. Academics
2. The sport that they play
3. Everybody in the program must be important. Everybody in the program needs to strive to be a good person. If everyone treats others the way that they would like to be treated, things run smoothly. When you care about other people, you are a winner.
