UWA women’s golf finishes seventh at Myrtle Beach

SUNSET BEACH, S.C. – West Alabama women’s golf finished seventh place in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate tournament with a combined 64-over par 640 at the Myrtle Beach South Creek Golf Course on Tuesday.

UWA carded a 332 in round two following a season best 308 in the first round.

“We fought hard today,” said UWA head golf coach Adam Buie.

“We didn’t give up and battled through hurricane-like conditions. For some of these girls, its their first experience playing through these kind of conditions. I’m still proud of our today. We were still able to place strong.”

Christine Stryken led the Tigers for the second consecutive tournament with 12-over par 156 to end 14th overall. Stryken shot 74 on the front nine in round two and finished with a 82 on the back.

Savannah Payne finished 15-over par 159 with an 83 in round two to finish 24th. Ida Bergli improved on her first round 88 score with 85 on the second day for 173.

Saint Leo University continued their lead into the second round to finish first with 609.

UWA women’s golf will returns to the course Oct. 13-15 in the Buccaneer Tournament hosted by Christian Brothers University in Tunica, Miss.
