UWA women ranked ninth in region

rp_primary_WSoc_13-09-05_044aa_fLIVINGSTON — With one regular season match left and the Gulf South Conference Championships on the horizon, the West Alabama women’s soccer is ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II South Region.

West Alabama (10-6; 5-4 Gulf South Conference) is one of four GSC teams still among the top 10 in the South Region. The Tigers’ upcoming opponent, West Florida currently leads the region. Valdosta State (third) and Christian Brothers (eighth) also made the rankings.

UWA will host West Florida, the No. 1 team in the nation, on Friday. The Argonauts enter the match 11-0-3 overall; 8-0-1 in the conference, while the Tigers are 5-1 at Tiger Stadium. The match is set to kick off at 5 p.m.

West Alabama currently sits in third place in the GSC behind West Florida and Christian Brothers. This year’s GSC tournament will be held at Nov. 7-10 at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla.
