rp_primary_UWA_Marianne[7]LIVINGSTON β€” The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team has inked Marianne Ward of Winston (Miss.) Academy during the early signing period

The 5-foot-10 Ward has been a starter on the Patriots varsity since the ninth grade and has been a three-time MAIS All-District 2AA selection, scoring over 1,200 points and grabbing almost 450 rebounds. Her career scoring high is 39 points and she once made 31 consecutive free throws.

“To be where we want to be with our program we believe we need to sign one or two quality freshmen,” UWA head coach Craig Roden said. “Marianne certainly fits the mold we are looking for. She is a player with a great skill set that will blend well with what we want to accomplish at UWA.”

Ward, who has helped Winston Academy to get off to a 6-2 start this season, is the daughter of Joe and Annette Ward of Louisville, Miss. Her older brother Jesse is the running backs coach at Delta State University.
