UWA safety McNeal to enter diversion program

University of West Alabama safety Demetruce McNeal will enter a diversion program where he will attend court-mandated classes and complete 20 hours of community service.

McNeal’s entrance into the program stems from a marijuana possession charge he faced while enrolled at Auburn University. McNeal, who was dismissed from the Auburn football program in August, is a first-time offender and can have his charge dropped if he meets all program requirements.

According to the Opelika-Auburn News, McNeal’s attorney said the decision is a step toward putting the incident behind him and not an admission of guilt on the part of his client.

“He just decided that this would be the best thing for his future,” Bingham told the OA News.

McNeal led UWA in tackles with 63 in 2013. The standout also had a team-high three interceptions.

The West Alabama Watchman wishes McNeal the best as he looks to complete the diversion program and move beyond the incident.
