UWA men’s tennis in Top 25

rp_primary_Tennis_2013_RegionalLIVINGSTON – The West Alabama men’s tennis team is ranked No. 23 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II Preseason Rankings.

The Tigers are one of two Gulf South Conference teams in the top 25. West Florida is ranked No. 3. Other ranked GSC teams include Valdosta State (27) and Alabama-Huntsville (36).

“I’m pleased with the preseason recognition after such a good season last year,” UWA head coach Glen Fanelli said. “We are on the way to getting where we want to be, so we will take it as a compliment and keep moving forward to where we expect to be.”

West Alabama finished 23-4 last spring, 5-2 in GSC play.

Senior Nestor Vargas is ranked No. 15 nationally in the ITA preseason singles rankings after finishing last year with a 19-2 singles record and a No. 12 ITA South Region ranking. He teamed with Kike Ruiz to post a 20-3 doubles record last spring.
