UWA men win Falcon Invitational

MONTEVALLO — The University of West Alabama men’s cross country team placed six runners in the top 11 to win the Falcon Invitational hosted by the University of Montevallo Saturday at the UM Cross Country Course. The Tiger women finished fourth.

Three Tigers finished in the top five, with Kenny Slavick leading the way by covering the 8K course in 28:09.15, good enough for second place individually. Warren Enriquez was third (28:15.6 1), followed by Rafael Duenes in fifth (28:31.82).

William Kazery (28:51.59), Armando Fierro (28:52.09) and Brandon Nelson (29:09.95) finished seventh, eighth and 11th, respectively. With the top five finishers used to calculate team scoring, the Tigers finished with 25 points, 26 ahead of hosting Montevallo (51).

Rounding out the men’s field were Spring Hill (80), Birmingham-Southern (100), North Alabama (120) Victory (126) and Miles College (210).

Cayla Noussain ran a 24:31.01 on the women’s 6K course to come in as UWA’s top women’s finisher in fourth. Shechinah Adams (25:09.94) finished 10th, followed by Tori Harris (25:39.39) in 15th, Laura Mancin (26:48.97) in 26th and Amber Nelson (27:25.86) in 33rd.

North Alabama won the women’s race with 55 points, one better than runner up Birmingham-Southern and two points ahead of Montevallo. The Tigers had 87 points, while Delta State (90), Spring Hill (150) and Miles College (215) rounded out the women’s field.

West Alabama does not compete again until the Gulf South Conference Championships Oct. 26 in Birmingham, Ala.
