UWA holds at No. 2 in Super Region Two
With one week to play in the regular season, the 2017 Gulf South Conference champion West Alabama football team remains at No. 2 in the NCAA Super Region Two rankings. The Tigers are 8-2 overall, 8-1 against Division II opponents and 8-1 against regional foes.
Wingate (N.C.) remained in the top spot at 9-0 against both regional and Division II competition. The top seed at the end of the regular season earns a first-round bye in the NCAA Playoffs that get underway Nov. 18.
West Alabama closes it season Saturday against region opponent North Greenville (4-5) at Tiger Stadium. The Crusaders defeated UWA by one point in the 2016 season opener, and one school of thought is that loss may have cost the Tigers a berth in the 2016 playoffs.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m. It will be Military Appreciation Day at Tiger Stadium with veterans and active military being honored and also admitted to the game for just $5.
