UWA football lands Jacksonville State transfer

LIVINGSTON – Defensive end Jai Smith is transferring to West Alabama from Jacksonville State to continue his collegiate football career. At 6-foot-2 and 260-pounds, Smith was redshirted as a Gamecock freshman.

Smith was a two-star recruit after finishing his prep career at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa. He helped lead the Patriots to an 11-1 record and the AHSAA Class 6A Region 4 Championship. He earned first team all-district honors and second team all-region accolades for the Patriots and was named to the AHSAA All-Star Game.

As a Hillcrest senior, Smith was ranked by MaxPreps as the No. 23 player in Alabama after recording 89 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and forced two fumbles.
