UWA Director of Athletics Stan Williamson resigns

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– Stan Williamson has resigned his position as director of athletics at the University of West Alabama to pursue other professional opportunities, according to an announcement Friday by UWA President Ken Tucker. Williamson has held the position since August 2011.

“The University appreciates the positive direction that Tiger athletics has taken under Stan’s leadership and wishes him well as he moves in a new direction,” Tucker said. “Our student-athletes have achieved success on the field, in the classroom and in life through his guidance and support.

“Our search for a new director of athletics who can guide us to even greater achievements is moving forward,” Tucker said. “We are aware how important this position is for our institution and are making every effort to make sure we have the best fit for the UWA community.”

Highlights of Williamson’s career at West Alabama include a Gulf South Conference Men’s All-Sports Trophy, four GSC men’s soccer championships and three GSC football titles. Men’s basketball and baseball won the regular season GSC crown in 2015, while baseball also hosted and won the 2015 conference tournament.

Williamson spearheaded improvements for UWA basketball, volleyball, softball and baseball facilities. Under his leadership, student athletes’ graduation rates increased significantly to surpass that of the national average for student-athletes and the average UWA student population.  He is a member of the NCAA Management Council and has served on numerous GSC committees.
