WACO, Texas – West Alabama climbed one spot to No. 11 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll after defeating Lenoir-Rhyne, 36-32, in the season opener last Thursday.

The Tigers are one of three Gulf South Conference teams in the top 25. West Florida (1-0) remained at No. 2, while West Georgia (1-0) climbed six positions to No. 13. Florida Tech, Valdosta State and Delta State all received votes.

The AFCA poll is one of two polls recognized for NCAA Division II teams. The D2football.com poll will be released later this week.

West Alabama plays the middle game of a three-game homestand Thursday when Miles College (0-1) visits Tiger Stadium. The meeting is the 12th between the two programs, with UWA leading the series, 10-1.
