UWA announces 2018 Homecoming schedule

LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The University of West Alabama has announced the schedule for its annual Homecoming celebration, set for Oct. 27.

Homecoming activities begin Monday, Oct. 22, with a Campus Ghost Tour led by Dr. Alan Brown at 8p.m.  The tour will start at the front of Brock Hall and wind through campus.  The tour is free and open to the public.  

 The annual Serendipity talent show will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Students will compete for prize money and bragging rights in four categoriesSerendipity begins at 7 p.m. on the Lyon Hall Quad, across from Bibb Graves Auditorium. Six Appeala Minneapolis-based vocal group, will serve as emcees for the event.The 2018 Homecoming court will be presented during Serendipity.

 On Thursday, Oct. 25, Coach Brett Gilliland, the Tiger football team, the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land, UWA cheerleaders, LUie and spirit groups will be on hand for the Homecoming bonfire, pep rally and fireworks show at 7 p.m. at the Intramural Complex. At 8p.m. Tana Matz will be the opening act for multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated, ACM and CMA Duo of the Year winners Thompson Square on the Lyon Hall Quad. The concert will be open to the public. UWA students get in free with student ID, but can upgrade to VIP for $10. General Admission is $15 and tickets are available at CAB.uwa.edu

 Friday kicks off alumni events for Homecoming, beginning with a 3-Man Scramble hosted by UWA Baseball and UWA Softball at Livingston Country Club. The event begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. tee time. The cost is $100 for an individual or $300 per team. The Barnes and Noble Bookstore located at the Student Union Building will be celebrating their Grand Re-Opening Friday afternoon between 1 p.m. and 5p.m. 

The annual UWA alumni party, sponsored by the National Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Affairs, is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the UWA family. The party begins Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the courtyard of Bell Conference Center on campus. Always a great time for friends, food and fun, this year’s party will feature live entertainment by Tuscaloosa-based band Farmers DaughterThe cost for singles is $15 and couples is $25. During the alumni party, the UWA Campus School will host Parents’ Night Out for children ages six weeks and older from 6-10 p.m. The cost for a family is $25 for one child, and $15 per additional child, which includes pizza and drinks. On Saturday, Oct. 27, Homecoming festivities continue at 11:30a.m. with an alumni BBQ luncheon hosted by the NAA and Alumni Affairs on the Foust Hall Lawn beside the CafFull Moon BBQ will be served for $5 per person. Call 205-652-3867 to RSVP or purchase your ticket at eventbrite.com

Spirited festivities continue at 1 p.m. when UWA students and organizations, special guests, and marching bands from across the state wind through downtown Livingston and campus for the annual Homecoming parade. 

The family-friendly Homecoming festival, Tiger Cubs and Tailgate, begins at 2 p.m. on the Campus School lawn with inflatable moonwalks and games for the little ones. Festival activities are free.

Tiger fans can show their support for the Tiger Prowl, which begins at 3 p.m. at Lyon Hall Quad. The Tiger football team, cheerleaders, and band will make their way from the Quad between Lyon Hall and Bibb Graves Hall to Tiger Stadium for the afternoon football game. 

UWA and Florida Tech kick off at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. Pre-game festivities feature the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land show and pep rally with the UWA cheerleaders. In addition, the homecoming court will be presented at halftime, and the new queen will be crowned. General admission for the game is $15.
