Tropical Cafe brings the flavor of Cuba to Demopolis

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting for the Tropical Café Thursday morning and highlighted the fusion of Cuban and traditional American cuisine.

Priscilla Pineda cuts the ribbon for the Tropical Cafe Thursday as DACC and cafe employees look on. Also on hand were Mayor Woody Collins and Pineda’s husband Tony.

Owner Priscilla Pineda said she and her husband Tony began the business on “$10,000 and a dream.”

Since they opened in November 2020, said Pineda, “Demopolis has been very welcoming.”

The Tropical Café is located at 413 Hwy. 80 W, adjacent to the Sunoco convenience store. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drive-thru service is available.

All of the food is made in-house “from scratch” of fresh ingredients, Pineda continued. She calls her menu Cuban flavor with traditional foods familiar to American tastes.

Staff members of Tropical Cafe include chef Zaria Houston, Nancy Waltmon, Ansleigh Johnson and Cassandra Carter.
