Tigers finish fourth in TSYS Collegiate Classic

rp_primary_Golf_14-01-31_091COLUMBUS, Ga. – West Alabama women’s golf carded a combined 334 in round three of the TSYS Collegiate Classic to finish fourth out of nine at the Country Club of Columbus on Tuesday.

UWA surpassed host school Columbus State in the final round to finish with a combined 996. Columbus State ended the tournament with 1005.

“We did really well this week,” said UWA head golf coach Adam Buie. “We redeemed ourselves after the rough outing we had at the World Golf Invitational. I am very happy with where we are headed now.”

Lee led the first and third rounds to win the tournament with a 304 in the final day, 934 overall. Lander finished second with 939 overall, followed by Montevallo with 950.

Tori Smith, who shot an 80 in each of the first two rounds, posted an 82 in day two to lead the Tiger s with a combined 242. Savannah Payne followed, also shooting an 82 on the day to end with 245 overall. Smith finished 13th overall, while Page ended tied for 17th.

Ida Bergli improved in the final 18-holes to mark an 83 after tallying an 85 in round two and an 89 in round one. Bergli tied for 27th.

UWA women’s golf will return to the course in the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirate tournament, March 1-4 in Savannah, Ga.
