Tigers conclude first day of Armstrong Pirate Women’s Invitational
POOLER, Ga. – West Alabama women’s golf carded a combined 348 to finish 14th out of 16 in round one of the Armstrong Pirate Women’s Invitational at the Savannah Quarters Country Club on Monday.
Host school Armstrong Atlantic tied No. 7 Flagler for first place with a score of 308. Nationally ranked 24th, Lander finished third with 317, followed by No. 22 UNC Pembroke with 319.
“This is a tough course and a loaded field,” said UWA head golf coach Adam Buie. “We also had to battle through a windy day, but we are capable of more. We just have to get back out there tomorrow and work on improving through, what’s supposed to be another cold day.”
Jessica Smyth and Ida Bergli each shot a 40 on the front nine combined with a 46 on the back to end the first round tied for 51st overall.
Tori Smith and Christine Stryken both carded an 88 to tie for 61st place, while Savannah Payne ended 70th overall with a 91.
The tournament will conclude with the final 18-hole round on Tuesday. UWA is set to tee-off at 8:30 a.m.
