Sweet Water is really hard to beat when Jonah Smith is on the mound. That proved true again Tuesday night as the Bulldogs returned home to down T.R. Miller 7-0.

Smith (2-0) struck out nine batters on 98 pitches over six innings of work while scattering five hits and two walks. John Thomas Etheridge pitched a scoreless seventh to cap the victory.

Luke Davis singled with one out in the bottom of the second and gave way to courtesy runner Xavier Lucy, who moved up to third on an error. Etheridge then singled him home for the 1-0 lead.

Jonah Smith reached on an error with one out in the third and gave way to courtesy runner Trent Sams who proceeded to steal second. Chance Broussard followed with a single to drive in Sams for the 2-0 advantage.

Reid Joiner followed with a single to left to score Braiden Broussard, who reached on a dropped third strike. Two batters later, Etheridge doubled home Chance Broussard and Joiner for the 5-0 lead.

Shamar Lewis reached on a hit-by-pitch to open the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to move the lead to 6-0. Brandon Schroeder reached on an error to open the bottom of the sixth and advanced to second on a passed ball. Sasha Smith then singled him home for the final margin.

The win follows a 5-4 loss to Sipsey Valley that occurred Friday in Demopolis. That game saw the Bulldogs take an early 2-0 lead before Sipsey posted one each in the first, second and third innings to tie the game 3-3. Sipsey’s two-run fourth proved enough to seal the win.

Chance Broussard and Etheridge combined to allow only two earned runs in the game while scattering eight hits over seven innings of work.

Jonah Smith doubled and homered to highlight the effort. Etheridge, Joiner and Braiden Broussard each had one RBI in the loss.

Sweet Water (2-1) is set to host Clarke County Thursday night.
