Sweet Water (1-1, 1-0) opened Class 1A, Region 1 play with a familiar authority Friday, downing intra-county rival A.L. Johnson 58-6. The Bulldogs hung 22 points in each of the game’s first two quarters en route to the dominating victory.

Jaylon Williamson scored on runs of 30 and 91 yards in the first quarter for the 15-0 lead. Jacory Brown added a 14-yard touchdown run to stretch it to 22-0.

ALJ looked to get back into the game when Robin Harris hit Johnny Robertson for a 7-yeard touchdown pass to cut it to 22-6.

Sweet Water stunted that momentum in short order and put the game away in the second quarter. Brown scored on a 5-yard run. Williamson added a 10-yard touchdown sprint and Brown punched it in from three yards away for the 44-6 halftime lead.

Williamson added a 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Jaland Lewis-Horton capped the scoring with a 4-yard rush in the fourth.

The Bulldogs tallied 426 yards of total offense including 309 on the ground. Williamson ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns on only 10 carries. Jonah Smith and Trent Sams each intercepted a pass on defense.

Sweet Water hosts Marengo High next Friday night while A.L. Johnson (0-3, 0-1) welcomes Fruitdale.
