Sweet Water starts season with win over Clarke County

The Sweet Water Bulldogs scored the only points they needed in the second quarter to get past the Bulldogs from Clarke County to open the season Thursday night.

Sweet Water’s Jaylin Dixon tried to break away from would-be tacklers from Choctaw County.

Jaland Lewis Horton put the first points on the board when he found the end zone from a yard out at the 11:55 mark in the second quarter. Michael Alan Cole’s point after attempt was good, giving Sweet Water the 7-0 lead.

Sweet Water QB Braiden Broussard then found Horton for a 27-yard completion as time expired in the first half, giving the purple and gold the only points required to take the win.

Clarke County’s only points of the night came on a 3-yard rush with 1:36 remaining in the contest.

Sweet Water’s Tyler Ward (65) and Trace Luker (10) bring down a Choctaw County ball carrier.

Broussard led the passing attack for the Sweet Water ‘Dawgs completing 5 of 7 attempts for 82 yards and one touchdown.

Horton led the ground attack, touching the ball 8 times for 31 yards and one touchdown.

The Bulldogs (1-0) play host to the Thomasville Tigers Friday.
