Sweet Water frustrates Jackson for 6-0 win

After eight days away from competition, Sweet Water got back to work Thursday behind staff ace Jonah Smith. The UAB signee struck out eight batters and scattered five hits during a complete game shutout of Jackson in a 6-0 victory.

Chance Broussard doubled to open the bottom of the second. Two batters later, Reid Joiner hit a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.

Broussard started the rally in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single and later scored on a Luke Davis single to right to move it to 2-0. Shamar Lewis then singled to left to drive in courtesy runner Xavier Lucy for the 3-0 advantage.

Smith opened the bottom of the fifth with a triple and gave way to courtesy runner Chastian Washington. Braiden Broussard singled to drive him in for the 4-0 lead. Sweet Water moved it to 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Sasha Smith singled home Lucy and Lewis to cap the scoring.

Sweet Water (14-8) hosts Leroy Monday before welcoming Demopolis to town Tuesday.
