Sweet Water clinches playoff berth
SWEET WATER — Pat Thompson’s Sweet Water Bulldogs clinched a playoff spot out of Class 2A, Region 1 Friday night with a 28-6 win over Choctaw County.
Sweet Water (5-3, 4-2) got 141 rushing yards and two touchdowns out of Jaylin Johnson on the night. Johnson opened the scoring with 5:24 to go in the first quarter when he ran it in from 12 yards out.
R.J. Rodgers stretched the lead to 14-0 when he scored on a 2-yard run with 6:14 left in the second quarter. Branson Davis then hit Paul Weatherly for a 25-yard touchdown strike to move the advantage to 21-0.
Duane Ruffin got Choctaw County on the board when he hit Ernest Ross for a 22-yard touchdown passin the fourth quarter.
Johnson scored on a 15-yard run with 5:10 left in the game to cap the scoring.
Will Huckabee had an interception for the Sweet Water defense and Deshawn Blanks connected on all of his extra point attempts in the game.
Sweet Water travels to Flotation next week with the winner of that contest locking down the No. 3 seed in the region.
