Student art featured in new Chamber Visitors Guide

Visitors to Demopolis have a new guide to help them get to know the city, and the brochure features art from four Demopolis student.

The Chamber recognized student artists. From left are David Lyons, Chamber executive director; Amy Duke, president-elect; cover artist Malaki Simpson; Abbie Williams, elementary winner; Betty Guerardo, second place; Kaitlyn Samples, third place, and Jeff Davidson, Chamber president.

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Monday recognized the winners of the art contest it sponsored, awarding each of them checks for their work. All entries can be seen on the DACC website.

Gracing the cover of the new guide to the city is a drawing of the old water tower, a creation of Malaki Simpson, a 2021 graduate of Demopolis High School. Abbie Williams, a fourth grader, was the elementary school winner. Second place winner is DHS junior Betty Guerardo, and Kaitlyn Samples, a senior, took third place.

Their art, said DACC executive director David Lyons, “Will live on long after us.”

“It’s so cool growing up here” and seeing how the young artists depicted the city, added Jeff Davidson, president of the chamber.

The brochures are available at the Chamber office, 102 E. Washington St.
