Stenz is Watchman Coach of the Year

2013-05-25 19.25.45We have waxed poetic about the virtues of Danny Stenz before. We’ve told you about his accomplishments as the Marengo Academy girls basketball coach after he took the Lady Longhorns to the state finals.

We have told you how we believe he may be working on a coaching resume that will one day land him the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame.

Now, we’re telling you that the West Alabama Watchman Girls Basketball Coach of the Year is also the West Alabama Watchman Softball Coach of the Year.

Winning your third straight state title and leading your squad to a 27-3 mark that includes another dominating and unblemished run through the state tournament tends to earn you accolades.

But what stands out about Stenz the most is that he is not a full-time coach. Stenz has a day job. And, from what we here, he is pretty good at that one too.

But Stenz rearranges his schedule to be at practices and games during the hectic time that is softball season. And despite juggling all of that, all he does is win.

A shrewd game manager, Stenz headed a team that put its faith in him in 2013. A team of standouts to outsiders was really just a team of role players to those in the know. Each girl showed a willingness to be unselfish and do whatever job was asked of them at the plate.

Whether you are a full-time coach or not, getting everyone on a team to buy in is nearly an impossible task to accomplish.

So congratulations to Danny Stenz on another state title and on being named West Alabama Watchman Softball Coach of the Year.
