Stenz heads group of six county players on softball All-State teams
Lynn’s Reagan Tittle headlines the 2014 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State softball team with her fifth straight selection.
North Alabama signee Title was named to the ASWA Class 1A All-State first team every year starting as an eighth-grader in 2010. Title was first-team shortstop this year, catcher in 2013 and 2012, utility in 2011 and designated hitter in 2010.
Four-time selections include Gatorade state Player of the Year and Class 4A Player of the Year Holly Ward of Haleyville, Class 6A Player of the Year Jordan Bullock of Sparkman, Class 3A Player of the Year Madi Moore of Winfield along with teammate Micaela Beck, Emily Woodruff of Class 6A Albertville and Chandler Stenz of AISA Marengo Academy. Moore is the only junior in the group.
Stenz, who will play basketball for Huntingdon, was AISA first-team second base each of the past two years and honorable mention in 2011 and 2012.
Stenz is one of four Marengo Academy players and six Marengo County athletes to gain recognition on this year’s ASWA All-State squad.
Andrea Edmonds, Brooke Smyly and Conner Etheridge of Marengo Academy each took honorable mention recognition in AISA. Sweet Water freshman outfielder Kayla Marshall earned honorable mention in Class 2A while Demopolis freshman catcher Abbey Latham was honorable mention in Class 5A.
Stenz, the Lady Longhorns’ second baseman hit a robust .511 as a senior with 10 extra-base hits, 18 steals and 44 runs scored.
Etheridge, who was honorable mention at first base, hit two homers and 13 RBIs while scoring 24 runs and batting .414.
Smyly took honorable mention in the designated hitter spot, batting .358 with 26 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
Edmonds earned honorable mention pitcher, going 21-6 with a 1.32 ERA and 180 strikeouts over 152 and two-thirds innings.
Marshall had a stellar freshman campaign in the Sweet Water outfield, batting .417 with 15 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
Latham held down the No. 3 spot in the Lady Tiger lineup, hitting .420 with 18 doubles, two homers, 28 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.
