St. Nick nominations open

Nominations are open for the 2019 Saint Nicholas, a Demopolis resident who best portrays the spirit of Christmas all year long by being involved in the lives of children in the community.

Saint Nicholas is a person who has made a positive impact on children. He or she is someone who brightens the day or goes the extra mile and seeks ways to help, teach, guide, or lead children to become the best version of themselves.

Written nominations for Saint Nicholas may be sent to the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 667, Demopolis, AL 36732, no later than Nov. 20. All letters must be signed. Nominations also may be taken to the Chamber office at 102 E. Washington St. or submitted online to director@demopolischamber.com.

The Saint Nicholas crowning will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 in the Public Square at 6 p.m. In case of inclement weather the event will be held at the Demopolis Civic Center. Carrying their handmade lanterns, children will light the way during the Lantern Light Parade to kick off the evening.

The event will include lighting the Public Square, the reading of the Christmas story, a live nativity, special entertainment, and we will close with a procession to the Demopolis Public Library where a special guest will be waiting.
