Seventh-inning rally puts Demopolis past Jackson for 9th straight

Demopolis rallied in the seventh for a pair runs to steal a road win over Jackson 4-2 Tuesday night.

Andrew Patterson reached on an error to open the inning. Davis Petrey advanced Patterson to second with a sacrifice bunt. Charles Casper then singled home the Tiger senior for the go-ahead run. Two batters later, Hudson Holley singled to drive in Casper for the 4-2 lead.

Holley slammed the door in the home half of the seventh by retiring the side on nine pitches including a pair of strikeouts in the inning.

Jackson took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth by capitalizing on inopportune control problems for the Tigers. With two out in the inning, Demopolis walked a batter and plunked another. Two base hits later and the Tigers were in a hole.

The deficit was short lived as Patterson ignited a fifth-inning rally to help his team pull even. Patterson singled before Petrey reached on an error. Casper followed with a single to load the bases.

Thrash cut the deficit to 2-1 with a single to right that drove in Patterson. Holley then tied the game with a grounder to short that allowed Petrey to score.

Holley’s two RBIs at the plate helped put him in line for his fourth win of the season on the mound. He struck out three batters over three and a third innings of work while surrendering one hit and walking one.

Freshman Hayes Atkins started the game, fanning six over three and two-thirds while allowing three hits and three walks.

Demopolis (9-4) has won nine consecutive games and is set to host Class 5A, Area 7 foe Central-Tuscaloosa Friday at 5:30 p.m.
