School board purchases property by DHS

At a called meeting Friday, the Demopolis Board of Education approved a contract with Steve Edmonds to purchase 6.92 acres at the entrance of Demopolis High School.

Supt. Kyle Kallhoff was authorized to seek financing from local banks for the $400,000 cost of the property.

“For years the board has been looking for a way to have another exit off the campus,” Kallhoff said. “This opportunity came quickly.”

The property has what he called a “little finger” that stretches to U.S. Hwy. 80 between the MedCenter and Jack’s. Kallhoff said he hopes within the next few years the school system will be able to construct a second exit from behind DHS to the highway.

The meeting Friday was the second called meeting. On Monday the board approved revising the ACM contract for Rick Wilson and updates to the Roadmap to Return to school.
