Santa visits Demopolis, thanks to First Responders

Escorted by more than two dozen trucks and cars driven by police and fire personnel from around the area, Santa Claus visited Demopolis Wednesday afternoon.

Santa and his escorts make their way through the city.

Santa rode adopt a fire engine, with Demopolis Mayor Woody Collins at his side, and waved to delighted spectators along the route through the city that took him through all five precincts.

Mayor Woody Collins seems to be asking Santa to bring Demopolis lots of good things for the new year.

Fire and police personnel from Linden, Sweet Water, Livingston, Hale County and Marengo County joined the parade, which took about two hours to weave through the city. Several vehicles from other Demopolis departments also joined in on the fun.

And, oh, yes, the Grinch came along for the ride, too.

The Sweet Water fire truck was among several vehicles from outside of Demopolis that took part in the parade.

Demopolis First Responders came up with the idea for the parade because the annual Christmas on the River day parade had to be cancelled this year, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
