Rotary Club celebrates year of service

Hunter Compton turned over the gavel as president of the Demopolis Rotary Club at his last meeting Wednesday. Ashley Coplin begins her term as president on July 1.

Ashley Coplin presents outgoing Rotary president Hunter Compton with a plaque and a book of photos of activities during his year.

Using a seven-minute video presentation, Compton reviewed the club’s accomplishments over the last year, and members thanked him with a plaque, a book of photographs from the year and a standing ovation.

Also recognized at the meeting were members with Perfect Attendance, Rotarian of the Year Jason Windham, and the Demopolis TSUNAMI Rotarians Jay Reynolds and Katie Echols Windham, recognized for their efforts to build the Splash Pad, now under construction at City Landing.

Compton estimated the total fund-raising amount of the club during his tenure, including donations for the splash pad, was more than $73,000. The club supported several local organizations as well as Camp ASCCA that serves children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.
