Roemen named interim CSFO; COVID days extended

In a short, called meeting Monday morning, the Demopolis City School Board of Education voted to name Jennifer Roemen the interim chief financial officer of the school system.

Roemen is filling the post previously held by Evelyn James who retired last month. The search for a permanent replacement is ongoing.

The board also approved the extension of COVID days for employees. Beginning last April, the federal government allowed each school employee 10 days of COVID leave, which was to have expired at the end of December. During the Christmas break, the decision was made to allow employees to use unused days through March 31.

Supt. Kyle Kallhoff said only six employees have used all of their days. Many have not used any at all so far, and others, only a few days. He said if any staff members need more leave because of COVID beyond their designated days, sick leave can be used.

In the only other action, the board voted to advertise for a paraprofessional position at Westside Elementary.
