River City Blue Receives Sponsorship

DHS Band Director Demetrius Scott and several band and auxiliary members address the Demopolis City Council at Rooster Hall on Aug. 16, 2018.

Demopolis High School Band Director Demetrius Scott and several members of the River City Blue marching band attended the city council meeting at Rooster Hall. Scott was seeking sponsorship for the upcoming Bands on the River festival that will be held in Demopolis on Sept. 29. Scott stated that 15-20 bands from all over the state will be in town the last Saturday in September. The Demopolis High School River City Blue marching band will have an exhibition performance. Scott has also solicited a collegiate band to perform an exhibition for the attending high school bands.

Scott stated that band parents, other community members and businesses had contributed monetarily and donated the use of personal property for the festival. The council graciously approved an amount of $2,000 for the band to help aid in the purchase of the trophies and plaques  for the competition. Mr. Scott expressed his gratitude to the council for their generous donation.

DHS band and auxiliary members who attended the meeting with Mr. Scott were Savanna Williams, Emily Hall, Abby Hulsey, Kelsei Elmore and Ariel Williams.
