Revenue Commissioner issues Homestead Exemption reminder

If you purchased or sold property after Oct. 1, 2012 or the deed was recorded after Oct. 1, 2012, it will not change into the new owner’s name until tax year 2014.

Please let our office know if you no longer own this property at 334-295-2214. Also new owners, if you have purchased a single-family residence and occupy it as your primary residence, you are eligible for a homestead exemption, which is a tax break on your property taxes.

A Homestead Exemption must be requested at the Revenue Commissioner’s office, as it is not automatic, and needs to be requested between Oct 1. and Dec. 31 to be applied for the following tax year.
