Registration still open for Saturday’s Color Me Blue 5K

The Demopolis Quarterback Club is in the final stages of preparations for its first Color Me Blue 5K Run in view of Saturday’s 8 a.m. start time at the Demopolis Sports-Plex.

Thus far, 115 runners have signed up to take part in the event.

“We were hoping to get between 100-125 participants and we have already met that goal. We feel that we could exceed that goal Saturday,” Trish McVay, event organizer, said. “People can still sign up at Demopolis Middle School or High School, Hibbett Sports, or Robertson Banking Company (Westside Branch). The registration fee is $35.”

The 5K race will differ from other events of its kind as event workers will be stationed at varying points along the route to throw dye at runners. Race participants will begin the race with a white T-shirt and end it with a tie-dyed shirt.

“We encourage everyone to pick up their packets at the ‘Pick-Up Party’ on Friday at Hibbett Sports from 4:30-7:30 p.m.,” McVay said. “If the participant is unable to pick up their packet Friday, we’ll have them at 7 a.m. at the Sports-Plex pavilion by the batting cages. Our sponsors have provided some great gifts for our runners & we’ll also be throwing out prizes at the starting/finish line. Participants need to be ready to start the race at 8 a.m. sharp. We will have a registration table at the pavilion by the batting cages for those who need to register that Saturday morning.”
