Plans for absentee voting in Marengo County under way

Plans are in the works for absentee balloting in Marengo County.

Laurie Shoultz Hall, Probate Judge and newly appointed Absentee Election Manager for the county, said she and her staff are finalizing criteria for those who wish to vote absentee in the General Election Nov. 3.

“I am very excited to take on the role of Absentee Election Manager for Marengo County,” Hall said. “Election season is always extremely busy for me and my staff, and I know taking on this job will require much more work for us, but we are looking forward to it and we are hitting the ground running.

She asked for patience as the department goes through the transition, but added, “I have had a few days to start working on absentee planning and want to get some information out to everyone regarding absentee applications.”

Marengo County voters may obtain an absentee ballot application for the 2020 General Election in several ways:

  1. In person at the Probate Tag/License or Recording/Court offices.
  2. Calling (334) 295-2150 and leaving name, phone number and mailing address for an application to be mailed.
  3. Printing the application from the county website homepage at www.marengocountyal.com and mailing it in to the address on the application.
  4. In the very near future, requesting an application be mailed to you from the county website (www.marengocountyal.com) by clicking on a link from the home page and entering the required information.

Please remember that most applicants are required to mail in a copy of an identification, she said. Instructions are on the application. Also, only one application may be accepted per envelope.

No ballots will be mailed until Sept. 9 or soon thereafter, once her office has received supplies, she said, “but we will get them out as soon as we are legally allowed.”

Anyone with questions may call the Absentee number – 334-295-2150. If there is no answer, please leave a message and someone will return your call.
