Papa’s Casket Sales opens in Demopolis

Freddie and Frances Charleston cut the ribbon to their new, unique business Friday, as supporters and well-wishers looked on.

The couple has opened Papa’s Casket Sales at 1804 U.S. Hwy. 80 E., and will offer custom-made caskets at affordable prices.

Freddie Charleston cuts the ribbon to Papa’s Caskets, flanked by his wife, Frances, and Mayor Woody Collins.

Frances Charleston said they can provide all kinds of caskets to specifications, including those with favorite team colors. They chose the Demopolis to open their only location because it was convenient and centrally located.

Freddie Charleston, before cutting the ribbon to join the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, offered a prayer. “I must have prayer before we do anything,” he said. He also thanked the people who have encouraged, helped and supported the couple in their efforts to open Papa’s Caskets.

Mayor Woody Collins praised the Charlestons. “Small, family-owned businesses are the life-blood of the city,” he said.
