Panthers wrap week with splits against 2A foes

DIXON’S MILLS — The Marengo High Panther basketball teams ended a busy opening week with games against a pair of 2A foes on back-to-back nights.

The Panther squads swept Sweet Water Thursday night. The junior varsity team opened the night with a 33-24 win over the B-Team Bulldogs, moving to 2-0 on the season.

Dominique Harris had 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Keshawn Fountain added 13 points, four rebounds and five assists in the game.

Desmond Vincent and Bralone Kidd each scored seven points for the JV Bulldogs.

The Lady Panthers followed with a 21-14 win over Sweet Water to move to 1-1 on the season. J’Mya Hall had seven points, nine rebounds and six steals for Marengo. Kadijah Crispin added six points and eight rebounds.

Sweet Water saw Kamae Retic score eight points to lead the way.

The Panthers closed the night with a 46-38 victory over the varsity Bulldogs. Cordarius Pritchett paced Marengo with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Michael Kennedy added 13 points, 14 rebounds and four steals.

Jamar Monroe scored 16 points and grabbed 13 boards to lead Sweet Water.

Marengo followed with a difficult night Friday when it hosted Choctaw County. The JV Panthers lost the opener 31-25 to CCHS, falling to 2-1. Fountain had seven points. Terion Dunn led Choctaw with 17 points.

The Lady Panthers lost 47-34 to the Choctaw girls, sending the Marengo ladies to 1-2. Hall had 18 points,10 rebounds and five steals. Iesha Bouler had seven points, 14 rebounds and four steals.

Jasmine Cunningham dumped in 19 points to lead Choctaw County.

The night ended with a 49-45 Choctaw varsity victory over the Panther A-Team. Kennedy scored 21 points with six rebounds and three steals to lead Marengo. Pritchett scored 10 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Ronald Ruffin had 22 points to lead Choctaw while Cashawn Chaney scored 11.

The Panthers are set to play again Tuesday when they visit Thomasville.
