Pair of DHS students place in Saturday bass tournament

Camden, Ala.—The second leg of the 2019 McNider Marine Iron Man Tournament Trail was held Saturday at Roland Cooper Start Park in Camden. Due to area paper mill outages, the field of participating teams was down but the fish cooperated with the 43 teams of anglers.

Patrick Currie and Craig Hall of Millry, Ala., took first place with a mighty impressive bag of Millers Ferry bass that weighed 20.13 pounds. Second place and the big fish of the tournament, 5.52 pounds, went to Michael Etheridge of Gallion, Ala., and Scott Freeman of Forkland, Ala., with 18.07 pounds.

A pair of Demopolis teen anglers, Jackson Aldridge (14) and partner Ben Gwin (18), held their weight against the veteran field, tying for second place with 18.07 pounds.

Fourth place with 17.75 pounds went to veteran tournament fishermen, Corey Smith of Gallion and Gray Smith of Thomasville, Ala. Fifth place winners were Matt Reeves of Leroy, Ala.,  and Dale Nichols of McIntosh, Ala. with 17.54 pounds. Greg Griggers of Demopolis and Barry Landrum of Butler, Ala., placed sixth with 16.71 pounds.

The third leg of the McNider Marine Iron Man Tournament Trail will be held at Demopolis City Landing on May 4. For information and standings go to www.mcnidermarine.com.

Looking ahead to the weekend of April 20, Roland Cooper State Park will host the Third Annual Selma Area Food Bank Bass Tournament guaranteeing a $2000 first place cash prize on Saturday. This is an annual fundraiser for the Selma Area Food Bank that serves Dallas, Wilcox, Marengo & Perry counties in Alabama. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be accepted all day Saturday at the Roland Cooper State Park Pavilion.
