Morrison, Colyar drive in three each as Demopolis pounds Greensboro

After five days off, Demopolis got back to work Saturday with a 10-0 road victory over Greensboro. The Tigers got the bats working in the top of the third. Three straight one-out singles from Hunter Colyar, R.J. Cox and Jonathan Lewis loaded the bases. Two batters later, Ryan Morrison singled in Colyar and courtesy runner Wesley Allgood.

Demopolis broke things wide open with seven runs in the top of the fourth. DeDe Davis doubled and later scored on an error to make it 3-0. Colyar reached on one error and scored on another. Cox singled and gave way to Allgood, who scored on an error. Lewis reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Morrison’s double to make it 6-0. Tyler Jones doubled home Morrison to push it to 7-0. Jones scored on an error for the 8-0 lead. Davis then hit his second double of the inning to drive in Patterson, who reached on an error.

Lewis drew a walk in the fifth and gave way to courtesy runner Henry Overmyer. Morrison singled in Overmyer to cap the scoring at 10-0.

Demopolis had 12 hits in the contest and capitalized on seven Greensboro errors in the five-inning win. Cox did yeomen’s work on the mound, striking out 11 over five innings while scattering six hits and walking no one.

Demopolis (10-5) is set to host Thomasville Monday at 6 p.m.
